About Sonamu - Korean Restaurant
30+ years of Korean food experience. Operated and owned by mother and son. Casual, authentic Korean food
Located at 5716 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94121, Sonamu - Korean Restaurant operates as a korean restaurant serving San Francisco in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Francisco, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11:30 amβ3:30 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Sonamu - Korean Restaurant at (415) 578-6808; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is sonamusf.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 132 reviews, which is a strong result for a korean restaurant in San Francisco and suggests consistent service.
San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

We ordered a bimbimbap, japchae, soup and galbi for 3 of us. The portions are good size and the flavor of each dish was good. In particular I liked the soup the best, but only wish they have more glass noodles in it. I also appreciate that this restaurant isn't using much of MSG so I wouldn't be drinking gallons of water after the meal. The restaurant was not too busy so they only had 2 staff on the floor. They were still able to check on you for anything we need. I also like the restaurant playing some soft music from the tv which makes the meal more enjoyable. (Though we had a table of 5 ladies behind us, so their talking was louder than the music.) Parking is outside on the street. It was okay with us as we went during the long weekend but I guess it may get busy during some other times. One thing I didn't appreciate as much was the cleaning (muggy) smell of the restaurant. The smell was strong when we first got there but eventually the cooking from the kitchen overpowered that smell.

sonamu is a hidden gem; it does the basics just fine but my favorites are off the beaten path. they have pigs' feat, samgye tang, bibim naengmyeon, and more! i'd strongly suggest trying new items here, you likely won't find them elsewhere. the staff are all attentive, helpful, and nice. the restaurant itself is quiet and easy to get seating. this is a really nice place that deserves a lot more foot traffic!

Newly remodeled from the previous Turtle Tower restaurant. Service on the slow side. As for food, Chicken Wings - good PaJun (seafood pancake) - not bad. Crusty on the outside. Banchan - simple. Generous on the fish cake but fish cakes were too fishy and tough. Tteokbokki - very different from other Korean places. Quite disappointed. Galbi (Korean short ribs) - flavor was good but on the dried side from overcooked. Galbi Tang - good but too salty. Tofu stew - broth was just ok. too watery. Ox bone soup - a little bit greasy but my favorite. Just wished it was less grease floating on top.

We had a wonderful lunch at sonamu on Sunday. We ordered sellotang, Galbi and Kimchi jigae. We arrived there slightly before closing time but they still serve high quality meals and service is 10/10. Server Hauk is attentive and refill BanChan for us as well. Weβve been there couple times and still my favorite is Kimchi jigaeeee!! Also they give korean bean paste and lettuce for Galbi. The best homemade authentic korean food in Richmond area!!!

Came on a Friday night and it wasnβt too busy. This place was clean and had a pretty casual vibe. We got a seafood and scallion pancake and Tofu Stew with beef. Loved the banchan options, not as big of a spread as fancy Korean restaurants but pretty good for a casual place like this. The food was delicious and satisfied my craving for Korean food, especially on a windy and chilly day.
